Toch denkt dat Bernie Ecclestone dat het snel voorbij is met deze exorbitante salarissen.<\/h4>\n<p>In gesprek met zijn vriend en journalist Roger Benoit van de Zwitserse boulevardkrant Blick stelt Ecclestone dat ook de Formule 1 \u2013 en niet alleen door de coronacrisis \u2013 in financieel opzicht een forse stap terug moet doen.<\/p>\n<p>De Brit doelt daarmee onder meer op de salarissen van de coureurs. Als voorbeeld geeft hij Lewis Hamilton, zesvoudig wereldkampioen en volgens Ecclestone de enige echte superster die de Formule 1 heeft. Het contract van de coureur bij Mercedes loopt na dit jaar af. Verlengt Hamilton zijn verbintenis bij zijn huidige werkgever, of is er een andere partij (Ferrari) die hem wil hebben en aan zijn pittige salariseisen kan voldoen?<\/p>\n<p>Volgens Ecclestone zal ook Hamilton moeten inleveren, dat is onvermijdelijk. Zeker nu autofabrikanten het zwaar hebben, er een budgetplafond komt en alle Formule 1-teams meer op de kleintjes gaan letten. \u201cLewis hoeft over het geld niet te gaan pokeren\u201d, zo luidt het advies van Ecclestone. \u201cDe geschatte \u20ac50 miljoen die hij nu verdient, zal hij nooit meer ergens kunnen gaan verdienen. Alle coureurs zullen in de toekomst wat dat betreft een veer moeten laten.
